Vegan-friendly echium seed oil raises EPA and DHA and reduces CVD risk


Great news for vegetarians and vegans wanting to protect their heart health, as once again data is published on the benefits of echium seed oil supplements for raising both EPA and DHA levels and reducing cardiovascular risk. In a direct comparison with fish oil, subjects taking echium seed oil experienced significantly reduced serum cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, oxidized LDL, and triglycerides, regardless of age and BMI. Although considerably more echium seed oil is needed to deliver health benefits and increases in EPA and DHA similar to those seen with fish oil, echium seed oil is consistently proving itself an important dietary source of omega-3 PUFA.
