Curcumin is a flavonoid extract of turmeric root but it is poorly absorbed in the body and rapidly metabolised into inactive forms. Longvida® Optimised Curcumin® harnesses a patented lipid delivery technology that offers 285x greater bioavailability, 65x higher peak plasma levels, and 7x longer-lasting action than standard curcumin. Longvida curcumin is highly stable and highly soluble, optimised to deliver free curcumin (the active form that is not metabolised or glucuronidated) into the bloodstream and target tissues. Curcumin is a naturally occurring yellow pigment found in the spice turmeric, widely used for joint support, muscle soreness, and cognitive decline. We provide the most bioavailable form of curcumin using Longvida technology, a unique form of curcumin with sustained action. The Longvida delivery technology protects curcumin through the harsh environment of the stomach, and also protects against early excretion by the liver. ‘Free form’ curcumin is also smaller than the other forms often found in supplements and the only form that’s been proven to pass the blood-brain barrier. This means that Longvida can transfer the remarkable properties of curcumin to the cells of the brain.

'Free form' curcumin

Curcumin is one of the 3 main curcuminoids derived from turmeric root, which includes curcumin, DMC and BDMC. As ‘free form’ curcumin is the most bioactive, at Igennus we provide curcumin using Longvida technology to optimise its benefits. Unfortunately, many supplements, including those using delivery systems like Meriva, actually deliver very little ‘free form’ curcumin, and more of the less active curcuminoids, which may not be as beneficial for health. Longvida technology is the only delivery system proven to effectively retain ‘free form’ curcumin in the body.

Bioavailable & long lasting

Standard curcumin (turmeric) is very poorly absorbed, at less than 1%. Absorption is diminished throughout the digestive process, including being degraded by stomach acid. In addition, the half-life of standard curcumin (the time taken to halve its concentration in the body) is less than 1 minute! Piperine (black pepper extract) can extend its half-life to 6 minutes, however it has negative effects of suppressing liver detoxification. In contrast, Longvida delivers curcumin with a 7-hour half-life and has been shown to offer 285x greater bioavailability.

Lipid layer technology

Longvida technology encapsulates curcumin in a protective lipid layer, optimising its journey from pill to cell. Longvida transports curcumin effectively through the acidic environment of the stomach, and then bypasses normal absorption via the circulatory system, instead entering the lymphatic system. This key step bypasses the liver (which rapidly metabolises standard curcumin), and subsequently avoids early excretion by the kidneys. This advanced delivery system achieves 65x higher curcumin plasma levels with sustained effects.
