High-absorption chelated zinc picolinate
Fully reacted, high absorption magnesium citrate
Neurobalance contains bioavailable magnesium citrate that is fully reacted and not buffered. Being fully reacted means magnesium is chemically bound to its carrier, so it’s effectively fast-tracked through the digestive system and delivers higher levels to the body. Beware supplements that are buffered or blended as these are ‘topped up’ with magnesium oxide, which is only 4% bioavailable and may have laxative effects.
Vitamin B6 as pyridoxal-5-phosphate
Vitamin B6 exists in 6 forms but only the pyridoxal-5-phosphate form has enzyme cofactor activity. B6 metabolism is delicate and the conversion of dietary vitamin B6 to pyridoxal-5-phosphate (P5P), the form required for producing certain neurotransmitters and neuroprotective chemicals, is often compromised. P5P is particularly effective in supporting the nervous system, acting as a cofactor in the biosynthesis of serotonin, dopamine, adrenaline and gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA).
Zinc picolinate
Zinc is an essential mineral required by the body for growth and development, wound healing and immune function, as well as over 300 enzyme reactions important for gene expression, cellular communication and division. Zinc is also required for neurotransmitter synthesis and so is vital for memory, learning and mood. It also plays an active role in optimising immune health and is essential for healthy skin and hormones. Neurobalance contains the chelated mineral form, zinc picolinate (bound to picolinic acid), which is especially bioavailable. The absorption of zinc in the body is a complex process that involves passing through the intestines, into the bloodstream, and up into individual cells. In bioavailability studies comparing zinc citrate, gluconate and picolinate, absorption is enhanced when zinc is complexed with picolinic acid. Zinc picolinate also retains levels in the body for longer, and is known for its neuroprotective, skin- and immune-supportive health properties.
Magnesium citrate
Magnesium is a vital mineral involved in over 300 enzyme reactions in the body, fulfilling a wide range of physiological functions - from energy production and central nervous system function to supporting muscular and cardiovascular function and hydration. In addition, magnesium plays a direct role in maintaining healthy bone density and supporting a healthy immune system.Neurobalance contains the bioavailable, fully reacted magnesium form, magnesium citrate. Magnesium that is fully reacted is chemically bound to its carrier as opposed to supplements being buffered or a blend of magnesium oxide and citric acid. Unless magnesium citrate is fully reacted, it will contain poorly absorbed magnesium oxide, which often has laxative effects and is only 4% bioavailable. Secondly, being fully reacted, magnesium citrate is effectively fast-tracked through the digestive system to deliver higher levels into the body.
Vitamin B6 as pyridoxal-5-phosphate
Vitamin B6 is involved in over 100 cellular reactions throughout the body. The pyridoxine form, specifically, is required to metabolise amino acids and glycogen, as well as for normal nervous system, hormone and red blood cell function. Vitamin B6 is also required for production of cysteine, which is the precursor to the antioxidant glutathione.
Vitamin B6 exists in 6 forms but only the pyridoxal-5-phosphate form has enzyme cofactor activity. Humans have several inborn errors of B6 metabolism, which can compromise the metabolism of dietary vitamin B6 to pyridoxal-5-phosphate, required for metabolism of neurotransmitters and other neuroprotective compounds, making this form particularly effective in supporting the nervous system. Pyridoxal-5-phosphate is also a cofactor in the biosynthesis of serotonin, dopamine, adrenaline and gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA).
