Berberine is sourced from the roots of the Indian Barberry Berberis aristata, and gently water-extracted. Standardised to 28-34% and utilising a phytosome delivery system, it is highly bioavailable. Each capsule provides a potent dose of berberine with chromium. Formulated for everyday use, simply take one daily before food. For intensive support, take 1 capsule twice daily before meals.

High absorption berberine phytosome

To overcome the poor bioavailability of standard berberine, we use Berbevis Berberine Phytosome. The phytosome delivery system contains a food-grade matrix with lecithin and pea protein to enhance solubility. This optimises absorption of berberine by 10 times. To further enhance bioavailability, this formula also contains polyphenols, from grape seed extract. The polyphenols can prevent berberine from travelling back into the intestines after absorption.

Dual action with chromium

Berberine phytosome and chromium picolinate have complementary mechanisms of action, for increased benefits. We use chelated trivalent chromium picolinate, a highly stable compound. The addition of chromium to this dual-action formula contributes to the maintenance of normal blood glucose levels.

Clinically researched doses & gut friendly

We use clinically researched doses of Berbevis and chromium picolinate, combining an effective daily dose of 550 mg berberine phytosome and 200 mcg chromium picolinate chelate. Berbevis Berberine Phytosome is sourced from a 50:1 root extract, standardised to 28-34% berberine, and is gently extracted using water. The phytosome formulation is gut friendly, and the addition of grape seed extract helps to protect the intestinal epithelium from irritation.

Blood glucose support

Plants from the Berberis genus, particularly Berberis aristata, have gained attention for their potential to support blood glucose levels. Mechanisms of actions may include reducing the rate at which carbohydrates are broken down in the digestive system, and suppressing an overproduction of glucose in the liver. Chromium picolinate also contributes to the maintenance of normal blood glucose levels by enhancing the action of insulin.

Regulate metabolism

Research into berberine suggests that most of its benefits are from acting on controllers of energy usage in the body, including activating the enzyme adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK), a key regulator of cellular energy metabolism. Chromium also contributes to normal macronutrient metabolism, including glucose and fat metabolism. By supporting insulin sensitivity, chromium may help the body store fat more efficiently, and help break down fat for energy.

Improve insulin sensitivity

One of the primary ways berberine may help with blood glucose support is by improving insulin sensitivity. In people with insulin resistance, cells become less responsive to insulin, leading to elevated blood glucose levels. Berberine may help to overcome this by activating the PKC enzyme, which can increase the number of insulin receptors on cell membranes. Chromium may also help by enhancing the effect of insulin, allowing cells to take up glucose more efficiently.
